The Holiday Season is just around the corner and… how exciting is that? Family gatherings, parties, holiday baking, gift-gifting… All these things are just so much fun!
But… at the same time in the crazy midst of never-ending socializing, with our normal daily routines being thrown right out of the window, with the erratic eating sessions and the complete lack of predictability – all the excitement can easily result in stress, overwhelm and anxiety! …This anxiety can get so bad that at a certain point you may find yourself feeling just HATE everything about the holidays: the stress, the weight-gain, the emotional drain and the incredible lack of any sense of control!
Well, after having a good few of such moments throughout a good few of the Holidays seasons, I’ve finally realized that this doesn’t have to be this way! The Holidays are made for us to enjoy them and if you get to consciously evaluate what causes stress – you may be able to prevent the anxiety and enjoy the best of this beautiful season after all!
So here are my best tips on how to prevent the holiday anxiety!
THE GUIDE AVOIDING THE HOLIDAY ANXIETY:
#1. ACKNOWLEDGE IT!
Feeling anxious and stressed during the Holidays is actually a pretty common thing! Everyone I’ve spoken about it had confirmed that! Understanding that you aren’t “weird” if you’re feeling stressed instead of overjoyed is normal and it’s the first important step toward actually feeling better!
Besides, don’t you get to experience all sorts of different feelings even on the everyday basis? The Holiday Season is pretty long and your body and mind can’t “always” be excited!
Allowing yourself to be a human with feel some negative feelings along with the positive takes a lot of guilt out of the quasi which in turn eases the anxiety a big deal!
#2. BE MORE CONSCIOUS!
Although feelings a variety of different feelings is normal no matter what, assessing these feelings and the reasons behind them is equally important!
What makes you stressed and anxious during the holidays?
Is it the lack of me-time or too many pressures? Is it the sense that you’re losing all the control or the feelings of guilt that you aren’t being” enough”?
Try assessing what’s behind your anxiety and address these issues to regain back the control!
For instance if you’re worried if you’re “doing enough” why not ask for some feedback? Most likely you will end up being reassured that you’re doing more than just fine! Or, if there is anything that’s missing – it’ll be so much easier for you to fix these issues once you’re aware of them?
At the same time if the lack of me-time is your biggest anxiety factor – why not schedule it as a part of your everyday Holiday routine?

#3. TAKE CONTROL!
We all strive on routines! And although a bit of unpredictability can be one of the most exciting things about the Holidays, the complete loss of the sense of control over your day can make even a clam become anxious!
Once you’ve addressed all the anxiety-driving issues – create the holiday routine that’ll work for you, not against you!
Knowing exactly what’s going to happen at certain instances during the day is such a great source of inner peace!
Scheduling in all the “must-do’s” as well as things that you want to do for your own wellbeing while leaving some room for spontaneity will create the most fool-proof foundation for your most cheerful holiday season yet!

#4. FIND THE BEST HEALTHFUL RELIEF!
Alright! So, now that you know that holiday anxiety is REAL, that it’s perfectly NORMAL and it’s also pretty COMMON… And you’ve also learned how to best prevent it, it’s time to smash it out completely!
So, here’s my best tip: be kind to yourself. Treat yourself! Find the things that make you happy! Take a minute to actually plug into the happy sub-conscious of yours and pinpoint what makes your soul sing! And (to prevent any anxiety-driving guilt) pick out all these guiltless pleasures – small and large, that make you smile!
And – yes – a guiltless treat such as a Healthy Dessert is one of the best options when it comes to mood-boosting and stress-proofing yourself for the holidays! Cheap (compare to a new outfit for instance!), accessible, and so-so yummy!
#5. USE CAUTION!
Well, this guide would not be complete without a word of warning!
When it comes to treats, whether edible or not, it is important to use caution and not go TOO far overboard! Not only because if it’s the edible treats that you choose for enjoyment – too much just isn’t healthy! No matter how healthy those treat are!
But another thing is that an unhealthy amount of treating yourself to things can lead to senses of guilt and remorse! Definitely not something that one wants to experience if for boosting their levels of joy and preventing the stress and anxiety!
To ensure that the process of treating yourself stays as healthful as can be, make sure to practice some mindful eating techniques, pay attention to how you feel at the moment, prevent emotional eating (please read more about it here), and intake your treats in conjunction with the other healthful stress-relief techniques to ensure that the results that you’re getting are the results that you want! 🙂
Have a great holiday season, friends! And… do me a favor: do something NICE FOR YOURSELF: every single day! 🙂
